The WS-CE500-24LC is one of the Catalyst Express 500 series switches for networks with up to 250 workstations. These Layer 2–managed Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet switches offer nonblocking wire-speed performance that provides a secure network foundation optimised for data, wireless, and voice. Built-in advanced security features help protect individual devices as well as the entire network.
No console cable or terminal emulation application is needed for intitialization through the embedded GUI Device Manager. There are two options for switch management: GUI Device Manager for all operating systems and the Windows-based Cisco Network Assistant available at no cost from the Cisco Web site.
The 24LC model is useful when a few access points in the network require Power over Ethernet (PoE). The 24LC provides:
- Twenty 10/100Base-T ports for desktop connectivity
- Four 10/100 Power over Ethernet ports for desktop, wireless access point, IP telephony, or closed-circuit TV camera connectivity
- Two 10/100/1000BASE-T or Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) ports for uplink or server connectivity
Note: SFP connectivity requires an adapter. Cisco offers multiple types of adapters, such as the GLC-FE-100FX transceiver and the GLC-SX-MM.

Product service and support: Cisco will provide five years of hardware and software service and support ("SMARTnet") for any product or product bundle obtained through this donation programme.
